TIMELINE FOR
ORGANIZERS
This time line lists the action steps a troop
organizer takes throughout the year to ensure that:
- The Girl Scout program is available to all
interested girls and adults within the service unit.
- The essential elements necessary for a stable troop
remain in place.
The time of year suggested for the various action
steps is only a model. Timing may differ from service unit to service unit.
FALL (September-December)
- Establish new troops as needed
- Assist in registering, any girls who cannot be
placed immediately in a troop, and inform them of their registration status
- Continue adult and girl recruitment, including girls
who attended camp and summer
- programs
- refer to Priority Placement of Girls in Troops).
- Develop bridging and retention plan and assign
sister troops.
- Use service unit copy of troop registration forms to
update troop organizer records
- and compile a list of lapsed members
- Contact lapsed members
WINTER (January-February)
- Obtain public school enrollment figures (Texas
Education Agency statistics) from
- service unit manager; private and parochial school
figures, call the school Obtain
- school enrollment figures for girls with
disabilities and girls from minority groups.
- Develop a plan for extending membership to girls who
have not been reached
- Prepare fall troop projections (if there will be
girls/leaders leaving, bridging, etc in order to help determine if will be space in the
troop.
- Determine number of adults needed to ensure
leadership for all troops and
- interested girls
- Place new girls as space becomes available in troops
- Assist in registering additional girls in troops and
late registrants
- Check with leaders for any problems with meeting
places
- Encourage activities between sister troops
- Find potential troop sponsors and refer candidates
to appropriate persons
SPRING (March-May)
- Contact present Girl Scout leaders to determine
their plans for troop leadership in the fall
- Conduct adult recruitment campaign
- Conduct girl recruitment campaign
- Interview adults interested in being leaders
- Recommend adults for appointment as
leaders/co-leaders and assist service unit
- manager in notifying leaders and co-leaders of their
appointment and placement
- Prepare and distribute fall troop rosters to leaders
- Establish troops large enough to give girls
experience in self-government (See
- Safety-Wise, Standard 13)
- Assist in spring early registration campaign
- Continue to encourage bridging activities with
sister troops
- Encourage recognition for leaders (Leader's Day is
April 22)
SUMMER (June-August)
- Work with service team to develop next year's plan
of work
- Continue to recruit new girls and adults
- Find and reserve troop meeting places
- Assist recruitment coordinator in preparing for fall
recruitment events
- Update troop rosters and assist in registration of
new and continuing members
