UNDER THE BIG TOP SERVICE UNIT WEEKEND
This was one of the most successful and fun events that I ever chaired.  This event was held in the Spring of '87.  We had one of the largest service units in the council and we had approximately 1000 adults and children attend this event.  Because our largest camp could only sleep approximately 300 the percentage of this group was day only.  Doing an event of this size did present many problems, but none that we were not able to solve with teamwork and a lot of  hard work and many months of planning.  If you find that you will be doing an event of this size, please feel free to e-mail me rainbo4638@aol.com, and I will be glad to give you ideas of how to handle this size group.  Below you will find what was done at this event and a schedule for the weekend. 

 

The basic set up for this event was as follows:  

Friday Night

5:00 p.m.  -  10:00 p.m.    Check-In & Unit Set Up
9:00 p.m.  -    9:30 p.m.    Leaders Meeting (one leader must attend)
7:00 p.m. -   10:00 p.m.    Movies (Circus themes such as Dumbo, etc)
                                              Ramble for Cadettes and Seniors )
11:00 p.m                            Lights Out

Saturday

7:30 a.m.  -    9:00 a.m.    Breakfast in units
8:30 a.m.  -    9:00 a.m.    Leaders Meeting for Day Only Leaders (one leader per troop)
9:00 a.m.  -    9:15 p.m.    Flag Ceremony & Announcement
9:15 a.m.  -  12:00 p.m.    Morning Widegame
11:50 p.m. -   1:30 p.m.    Lunch in Unit with sister troops
                                              (sister troops were day only troops paired up with camping troops)

3:15 p.m.  -   4:00 p.m.   Troop I.D. Contest Winners announced and prizes given out
4:00 p.m.  -   5:00 p.m.   Free Time (Day only load cars during this time)
5:00 p.m.  -   5:45 p.m.   Dinner for Day Only (Group 1)
5:45 p.m.  -   6:30 p.m.   Dinner for Day Only (Group 2)
6:30 p.m.  -   7:15 p.m.   Dinner for Camping Troops
7:15 p.m.  -   8:00 p.m.   Day only leave and free time for camping troops
8:00 p.m.  -   9:00 p.m.   Singing under the Big Top
9:00 p.m.                            Back to units

(During the dinner hours, troops that are not eating please go to the open field to play midway games
  and to have snacks)

Sunday

7:30 a.m.  -    9:00 p.m.    Breakfast in units
9:00 a.m.  -    9:15 p.m.    Scouts Own
9:15 a.m.  -  11:00 p.m.    All Camp Clean Up
11:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.    Closing
11:15 a.m.                           Check Out  (must turn in evaluation to receive patch)
